Pele Childhood
On October 23, 1940 Pelé was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Três Corações, Brazil, the first child of João Ramos and Dona Celeste. Named after Thomas Edison and nicknamed "Dico," Pelé proceed with his family to the city of Bauru as a young boy.
João Ramos, better known as "Dondinho," struggled to earn a living as a soccer player, and Pelé grew up in poverty. Still, he developed a basic talent for soccer by kicking a rolled-up sock stuffed with rags around the streets of Bauru. The origin of the "Pelé" nickname is unclear, though he remembered despising it when his friends first referred to him that way.
As youthful, Pelé joined a youth squad coached by Waldemar de Brito, a former member of the Brazilian national soccer team. De Brito after some time convinced Pelé's family to let the budding phenom leave home and try out for the Santos professional soccer club when he was 15.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento is Pele’s birth name. He was fondly called "Dico". He was raised in poverty. He though developed skills for playing soccer by kicking pieces of stuff on the streets of Bauru.
He began his career by joining a youth squad. International star Waldemar de Brito was the coached of that squad. He was so impressed with pele's skills and thus convinced his family and made him join Santos professional soccer club. He was just 15 years old then. Soon after joining the squad, he became the headlining of the team and scored his first goal even before he turned 16. Soon after coming in the computation, he was drafted in National side. He was take in the squad that was announced for the 1958 football world cup. He was involved in Brazil’s win in that world cup as the 17-year-old three goals in the semi-finals and two in the finals. He after his heroics was offered a lot of high paying deal to play for European clubs and was officially declared as a national treasure by the then Brazilian President, Jânio Quadros.
During the next two world cups, he had to wait on sidelines as he was nursing injuries. However, he showed what he is proficient of in the 1970 Football World Cup in Mexico. He netted four goals in the competition which includes one screamer in the finals against Italy which made them lift the World Cup once again. He declared his retirement from the international arena in the year 1974 but kept playing in the North American Soccer league and finally played his last match in 1977. He scored 1281 goals from 1362 games.
Retirement didn’t devalue his popularity at all and is even today considered as a legend in the world of football. He was named "Co-Player of the Century" by FIFA in the year 1999 alongside legendary Argentine footballer “Diego Maradona”. He published his autobiography in 2006 called Pele: The Autobiography.
